“Library in the Harmony of Culture”

Inspired by Bandung’s topography

The Binus University Library in Dago, Bandung, is designed to harmonize functionality, aesthetics, and the city’s cultural philosophy. Materials such as concrete, rattan, and wood are carefully integrated to create a warm yet modern ambiance. Concrete offers a sturdy foundation and a contemporary industrial feel, while rattan and wood bring natural, grounding elements to the space. Contrasting color schemes are employed to create visual dynamism, with vibrant hues standing out against neutral tones, reflecting the vibrant culture and creativity of Bandung. These elements come together to craft an interior that invites comfort while stimulating creativity among its visitors.

Inspired by Bandung’s topography, the library’s spatial design mirrors the city’s natural contours, surrounded by mountains, with an amphitheater area serving as the focal point. The dynamic layout draws influence from the flowing patterns of the Mega Mendung batik motif, symbolizing balanced yet energetic movement. Modular and mobile furniture enhances flexibility, enabling the space to transform seamlessly to suit different needs. The library features designated areas for reading, coworking, marketing, and the amphitheater, which acts as a central gathering space for reading, discussions, and social interaction. This versatile design positions the library not merely as a place for learning but as an inclusive collaboration hub adaptable to various campus and community activities.
